A day full of information and inspiration

Our CONSIDER THE FUTURE event on Wednesday 4 March was a great success, with some wonderful guest speakers and a panel of distinguished and very interesting performance makers.
The day focused on giving our students practical information on how to enter the professional performance industry. In the morning, a talk about how to establish yourself as a professional actor was led by Simon Darwen. In the afternoon, Dr. Jem Kelly introduced four performance practitioners who have founded their company at university. Jen Malarkey, Katy Balfour, James Grieves and Liam Jarvis gave personal accounts and useful suggestions on how to establish a company and get your work seen; particularly useful for our students who want to continue working together after graduating.

Simon Darwen held a talk in the morning, giving really useful tips on being a professional actor and what to do to enter the industry. Many thanks for your useful advice, Simon!

In the afternoon, Dr. Jem Kelly led a panel talk, in which Jen Malarkey, Katy Balfour, James Grieves and Liam Jarvis talked about how they formed their companies whilst still at university.

Jen Malarkey talks how she established her company Encounters Productions (http://www.encounterproductions.org), whilst James Grieves from Paines Plough (http://www.painesplough.com) gives 10 useful tips for theatre makers.

Liam Jarvis talks about how he set up his company Analogue (http://analoguetheatre.co.uk), whilst Katie Balfour recounts who she became Associate Artist at Punchdrunk theatre (http://punchdrunk.com)

We want to express our thanks to all guest speakers and panel member, and to Dr. Jem Kelly and Carrie Mueller for facilitating this event.
